Summary: Does not work with OSX 10.5
Comment: I've been searching high and low for a good printer, settled on this one due to the good reviews and ordered it from newegg. Went through the non-trivial install process for OSX 10.5, and the print driver is absolutely useless. When printing from programs like Adobe Reader, Firefox or Preview, I have absolutely NO printing options. I have to print the entire document, in full color. The only program that seems to have access to the full driver is MS Office for some reason. Canon support was not helpful in this issue at all. They basically said "Oh well. We don't support all features in OSX 10.5." Good thing it was a cheap printer and I'm not out a whole lot of money. Seems like some people are using it with OSX 10.5 just fine, so if there are ways to get the driver to work, please advise!

Summary: good little workhorse
Comment: I picked this printer to have a cheap, little 2nd printer upstairs; I got tired of running up and down every time I had to adjust or review a project! It's been exactly what I hoped for and even a bit more. It works as advertised - easy installation, bright color, relatively fast action. I saw one review that complained about the printed pages falling on the floor, but perhaps that person didn't see the fold-out arm that supports printed pages. It prints well on cardstock and photo paper. It was small enough to even lend out to my dad for a special project. My only complaint is the very small size of the ink cartridges it ships with. But since that's where they make their money, I guess it's not a bad compromise.

Summary: Affordable Quality
Comment: I've only used it for print so far, and the quality is excellent. No mechanical problems. I would like the option to print from back to front (spend 30 minutes looking for the feature last night to no avail) because documents come out face up so you have to re-organize documents that print out.

Comment: I actually bought this printer at Wal-Mart, before looking at any of these reviews. When I got home I checked them out. They seem to be totally mixed, and it's hard to tell if the darn thing is any good or not. I started thinking, "What kind of a piece of **** have I got here?"
I'm glad to see I was very wrong. It's light years faster than my old HP 5550, and works like a charm. The first time I printed something I though it was just spitting a blank test page through first. Much to my surprise there was actually something printed on it. My old hp used to take a good 90 seconds to chug a page through, and I can see that this printer and I will be great friends.
I haven't really had a chance to test it with photo, but it's not something I do much of anyway. (Insert blatant promotion of costco here, who charges 12 cents a print online and mails them back to me for free)
The whole machine cost less than a new color cartridge for my HP, which was why we were at the Wal-mart in the first place. To anyone who isn't looking for a lot of bells and whistles, this is definitely the way to go. It's a boring black printer that does it's job perfectly.

Summary: disappointed
Comment: Hi, i was faithful to Canon printers, this was my 3rd canon printer... I hated Epson printers cuz since long time ago, the epson's automatic features and ink level sw were not accurate... this was the main reason why i have been faithful to canon printers... but not anymore, i had s200, ip1500, now this one... and seems to be that as others say, there are 'chips' in each cartridge, and my original black and color cartridges are no longer recognized by the printer, the printer sw says there is no more ink, but there IS still ink left.... I guess canon become very greedy... shame on you canon... i was so loyal to your brand for nothing...
