Customer Rating: Summary: UGH! Do Not Buy One! Comment: I have to give the folks at the HP Customer Service dept. 5 stars for the help that they have been. The printer has been 100% problematic. The software conflicts with Vista and Word 07. It will cause Word to freeze and then you get a "program has stopped working" message and informed that it is due to a problem with the HP software and that they know about it and you are given a "Work around it" solution, additionally the Wireless connects/disconnects continuously and there are false ink level settings reports often. For months I have been told "HP is aware of this problem and is working on it!" It is not a good feeling to make out your time sheets for your job and want to take them into work with you - hit print - It freezes, you get a message, Word has stopped working, etc.... this is due to the HP software. HP Quit selling this machine, Hire someone that can fix the soft-ware problems that you say you are aware of, and let people know you have resolved the software problems.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not on wireless - works well for me! Comment: I got this printer free when I ordered my Mac in the summer, and I honestly have no complaints about it. The photos print out clear and crisp (I use Canon Glossy Photo Paper), documents scan and print out well, and in terms of speed, it's fast enough for everyday prints. I've been printing several documents a day and its finally indicating I need more ink for it (although I haven't replaced the cartridges for at least 2 weeks now and it's still going!)
For photo image printing, the Canon photo printers are still a hair above this printer - but for All-In-One use, this printer is a good bet.
NOTE: I noticed a lot of the complaints are related around software and wireless use with this printer. I've hooked it up via USB to both my Dell laptop and my Mac and had no problems with either computer.
Customer Rating: Summary: WOW!! Comment: I have never written a product review, but I feel I need to warn others of this product. This is the worst piece of equipment I have ever purchased. The "ink is running low" message starts appearing from almost the first print after a new cartridge is loaded. Then the black is substituted with purplish-gray ink.... looks awful, even for document printing. The wireless capacity is not being used because of the difficulty in setting it up (and I've installed another HP wireless printer with no problems before), and because my wireless router did not have the necessary female USB port for docking all devices in the setup phase. One more thing: every time the printer runs out of paper and you have to load it again, it prints an alignment page... terribly annoying! Save the money and keep looking!
Customer Rating: Summary: Ink Guzzler Comment: SUVs guzzle gas like this printer guzzles ink. Wow! We've had the printer for about a month and a half and have printed about 1/4 ream of paper (text only). Time to replace the black ink! I received this printer as a Mac promotion - the 30 bucks I paid was worth the wireless printing and scanning, but not much more than that. The black ink cartridge alone averages more than $15 plus tax and/or shipping. If you print a lot of text, buy a cheap, efficient laser printer instead. The toner will last a lot for the average user - we have an Epson laser (cheapee, $120) and I haven't replaced the toner in over a year! Buy a Canon LED scanner for 50 bucks and there you have scanning/copying.
Customer Rating: Summary: No Problems Comment: I read the reviews here, which suggest that you need to download a current driver from HP, at least to get it to work on a Mac wirelessly under Leopard. I did download it, set up the printer over USB to be wireless, and then unhooked it from the computer and plugged it in across the room. I've had zero problems. It's always available to print from multiple computers and multiple users. I've used the scan feature from multiple computers/persons and it works well. Print quality for both text and photos is good for a printer in this price range. I still use my old Canon i960 for larger color photos.
