Customer Rating: Summary: I Rock! and so does Guitar Hero Aerosmith! Comment: Lots of fun, challenging, good to play with my kids or online with other people. Would recommend it highly to others.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Comment: My son LOVES this game and Amazon's price couldn't be beat. Fast shipping and the best present my 10 year old says that he has ever gotten. And for us parents it is pretty cool to hear the songs of our youth!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun! Comment: I really enjoyed playing this version of Guitar Hero. No, it's not much harder than Legends, and yes, it's missing some great Aerosmith songs. But it's still lots of fun.
Customer Rating: Summary: I never understood the appeal of guitar hero... until I bought it. Comment: What's the point? I mean really, pushing buttons on a toy guitar to pretend like you're playing a song? Why not invest the same amount of time in learning to play a real guitar, and actually learn a skill in the process?
Yup, that was me, just a few short months ago. I watched co-workers talk about guitar hero, one who was just WAY too into it. I gave it a quick try at an in store Demo, and failed miserably, but still didn't understand why it would be so popular. Then one day, I saw the bundle in a Gold Box / Lightning deal discount, and decided to give it a try.
Now, I'm still not very good at it, Medium difficulty is about the right challenge level for me, but I sure get a lot of enjoyment out of playing. It's hard to describe exactly what is so fun about the game, but it's definitely addictive. I've since picked up Guitar Hero 3, and am looking forward to Guitar Hero World Tour next month.
This game was a great one for me to start on, since my wife is a big Aerosmith fan, and I enjoy most of their songs as well. This game follows Aerosmith on their rise to stardom and hits various tour sites that played a big part in their career. I loved how the clips between sections were of the real band members, telling stories of their career. I learned more about the band, and it really helped to hear the back story of some of the songs and scenes. Why, for example, is "Max's Kansas City" one of the stages you play early in the game? The interstitial videos explain. All in all, I like the 'following the band' style of this game much better than the cartoon segments following a fictional band in GH 3.
I do have a couple of nits to pick though. First, it would have been very cool to get to play on the last stage that it shows Aerosmith on after you beat the game. (At least, having beat easy, I'm assuming you never do get to play it.) I won't say what it is, but anyone who has finished easy and watched the end segments knows the stage I'm referring to. Yeah, that's a very minor issue.
The other thing I wish they had done differently was to include more of the actual Aerosmith songs. There are a bunch of Aerosmith hits that didn't make it into the game, as well as some lesser known songs that did. I see where they were going with the 'opening act' thing, but especially early on when Aerosmith is 'just starting out', playing in bars, the opening act doesn't really make much sense, and more Aerosmith songs would fit in well. There are even a couple of songs that it mentions in the loading screens as songs aerosmith played covers of when they were first starting out, but those songs don't appear anywhere in the game.
This is definitely 5 stars worth of fun for any Aerosmith fan, but I've got to stop at 4 stars for this review because some of the best songs didn't make it into the game.
