I'm guessing it was designed this way for stability and it worked. The hooks and guitar rests are nicely padded; no worries over your guitars getting scratched. The stand also fits very nicely in tight spaces. This is a very useful product if you're looking for a way to protect your guitars from damage and get them out of the way when they're not being used.
