In a nutshell:
Amongst all the games that were actually playable on the PS3 at the recent E3 event in Los Angeles this was the most impressive, both in terms of gameplay and graphics. Not only that but it’s a completely original game, not a sequel or a remake.

The lowdown:
Already nicknamed by some as Goddess of War, due to its apparent similarities to PS2 game God of War, the storyline of the game is unclear but it features a typically attractive and super skilled martial arts heroine as she knocks seven bells out of a stream of ninja like bad guys. The various moves look stunning, in particular an eye-watering groin attack aimed at the male enemies (the game features motion capture by Gollum and King Kong actor Andy Serkis). The E3 demo level takes place in a small, and completely destructible, arena but other test footage shows an expansive and impressively realistic looking game world to explore and demolish.

Most exciting moment:
Towards the end of the demo the game segues into a QTE (quick time event) sequence where you have to tap the buttons according to icons flashed onscreen, which sees you performing even more outrageous stunts and attacks.

Since you ask:
Developers Ninja Theory used to be known as Just Add Monsters, under which name they made comedy beat ‘em-up Kung Fu Chaos for the Xbox.

The bottom line:
The best looking, and playing, game so far on the PS3.
HARRISON DENT

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic game, ignore any negative press!   December 3, 2007

I don't normally bother with reviews, but seeing this game get some poor reports has inspired me to write this.
This is probably the most enjoyable game I can remember playing. Bioshock on the 360 is great in its own way, but it cannot compete with the story here.
Movie like, stunning and great gameplay. Downside is of course its shortness (did all the movie's use up the disc space?) and it's a tad easy until the end guy - but once completed there is a hell mode to play.
I'd put this on par with Gears of War as the best of Next Gen so far. Gears of war kicks this games arse with the multiplayer / online element but for story and a great way to spend 6-8 hours at least - enjoy!
4.5 out of 5.

5 out of 5 stars What PS3 owners were waiting for....   September 18, 2007

I have been playing this game almost non stop since my pre-ordered copy arrived.
Its awesome! Like a cross between god of war and onimusha. It matches furious gameplay with beautiful cinematic sequences. The characters are engaging and stunningly rendered and effectively draw you into the plot. Combat seems a little limited at first but as you get the hang of switching styles, combos, counter attacks and superstyle attacks you will be able to turn Nariko into a gracefull killing machine.

choosing a female character was an inspired choice because the grace and beauty of Nariko's combat moves just make their brutality more apparent!!

Sony have their new Heroine. and just as Lara Croft lead the charge of the first playstation, I have the feeling Nariko will do the job nicely. Awesome game, Awesome console.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!   April 26, 2008

I was downloading demos one evening as i decided i would like to buy a game, but i wanted to find one that hooked me instead of just running out and buying one that 'looked' good. Then i came across this little gem. Boy did i find what i was looking for!

Upon firing up the demo i was instantly blown away by the graphics! They are easily on par with the likes of Drakes Fortune and Gears of War in my opinion.

Then i started controlling the main character, WOW! The controls are nice and fluid and the game style is very much like Ninja Gaiden, Prince of Persia and God of War(Infact if you could put those 3 games in a blender and make a cocktail, this would probably be the result). The action never gets boring and with QTE (Quick Time Event) action sequences, much like those in god of war, thrown in to keep you on your toes.

Needless to say i instantly got online and ordered it, and its one of the best games in my collection, up there with the already mentioned ninja gaiden and God of War. This game is a must have for anyone that likes games of this type.

It is true this game is a little short lived but if you dont rush through it, you should get a fantastic 10 hours gameplay out of it. But its such a good game, you'll probably be back for more.

Bottom line: if you enjoyed Ninja Gaiden and God of War, you owe it to yourself to atleast try this.

From the excellent cutscenes starring Andy Serkis to the Wild and intigueing Battles this game is probably the best game I have played in years. It is great to see an original title on the PS3.

If you haven't got it, get it and you wont be disappointed!!!

They always are either biased, expect way too much or are just generally idiots. This game is amazing, bought it on the 14th and played to the end. Amazing storyline, best graphics i think ive EVER seen and a whole load of unlockables to get. One of the best PS3 games out.
Get it!
